Breastmilk is liquid gold, an absolutely invaluable food made by the human body to protect and grow babies. The benefits far outweigh any momentary discomforts, but some moms can't breastfeed for medical reasons, and that's okay. If you can, give it your best shot, whether it is for a few days or a few months.
If you have difficulty breastfeeding, you are not alone. Millions of women don't get it the first time, but with the right help and support, you can have an easy breastfeeding experience.
WHO and UNICEF recommend early initiation of breastfeeding within 1 hour of birth; exclusive breastfeeding for the first 6 months of life; and introduction of nutritionally-adequate and safe complementary (solid) foods at 6 months together with continued breastfeeding up to 2 years of age or beyond. (WHO, June 9th, 2021).
To every nursing mother out there, thank you for not only giving life but also giving your baby your liquid gold. We love you, we support you, keep being you!
